CoPAL meeting of 26 June 2025
The second CoPAL meeting for the year, held online on 26 June 2025, became a platform for rich information-sharing among key scholars in languages and linguistics.
Mr Johan Blaauw, Chairperson of the South African Translators’ Institute (SATI), shared information on the institute, alongside Dr Yanga Majola, Senior Lecturer: Applied Languages at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), who spoke about both the Names Society of Southern Africa (NSSA) and the Linguistic Society of Southern Africa (LSSA).
Their inputs were followed by a presentation titled Collaborate on Africanisation in Education by Ms Yanelisa Pulani of the African Research Society at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The latter triggered a rigorous discussion on the role of Africanisation in shaping teaching and learning.
Thereafter, members from the Central University of Technology (CUT), the University of Fort Hare (UFH) and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) then reported on their institutions’ language activities, ongoing efforts to promote multilingualism, and milestones realised in the development of African Languages.
See below for the presentations shared at this meeting.
