CoPAL meeting of 20 March 2025
On 20 March, the CoPAL hosted its first 2025 meeting online. Some forty (40) CoPAL members from nineteen (19) of the twenty-six (26) public universities actively participated. Members were apprised of the status of the TLSG benchmarking study being undertaken by Professor Dion Nkomo; developments on the Centres of African Language Teaching at Universities; and various activities and upcoming events of South African Language Associations. It was heartwarming to hear the rich reports from some universities on their current activities and milestones that are central to their transformation strategy on language policy. CoPAL members also reviewed the CoP’s Terms of Reference to ensure the work of the CoP remains relevant, as is the practice at the first meeting of the year. They also agreed on the 2025 priorities and plan of action.
