Developing an Approach to Internationalisation in South African Universities: Employment Equity and the Appointment of International Staff
On 3 August 2026, Universities South Africa (USAf) officially launched the Position Paper titled, Developing an Approach to Internationalisation in South African Universities: Employment Equity and the Appointment of International Staff, authored by Professor Crain Soudien.
The launch webinar was well attended by representatives from across the higher education sector and featured a rich and thought-provoking discussion. The insightful contributions from the presenter, panel members and participants underscored both the importance and the complexity of the issues addressed in the Position Paper, reaffirming the need for continued sector-wide dialogue on internationalisation, employment equity and transformation.
While the Position Paper has now been launched, USAf regards it as the beginning, not the conclusion, of an important conversation. We are therefore pleased to circulate the Paper more broadly and invite universities and other interested stakeholders to review it and share their views, comments and recommendations.
Your feedback will assist USAf in considering whether any refinements or additional perspectives should be incorporated as the Paper continues to inform sector engagement and policy discussions.
