Summary of the Impact:

Over more than two decades, Professor OldewageTheron has translated interdisciplinary nutrition research into a sustainable community intervention model that has improved food security, nutrition, health and livelihoods among vulnerable communities in South Africa and internationally. Originating in QwaQwa, Free State, the programme expanded across South Africa and internationally, including the United States and eight other countries, addressing both undernutrition and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases through an integrated approach combining nutrition assessment, nutrition education, soy production, household and school gardening, food preparation training, food-based interventions and community enterprise development.
