Summary of the impact:
The project had direct impact on the people of s’Swetla. They benefitted from the installation of grey-water treatment infrastructure in their communities, which were integrated with their wash areas. The project injected capital directly into the community, no external service providers were used. They were directly involved in the procurement of supplies, in the construction and maintenance and in the project management. The City of Johannesburg, the Department of Science and Innovation and the Department of Water and Sanitation benefit through the reports presented to the Water Research Commission, detailing designs for the treatment, in-situ, of grey water in an urban, informal settlement.
