Scholarly Presses in South Africa; how sustainable are they?

Late during 2018, the CEO of Universities South Africa commissioned a study of South Africa’s scholarly presses. The purpose was to generate an understanding on how the scholarly presses operate in the higher education sector by assessing their respective niche areas; their ownership/governance structures; their business models and, ultimately, what options can be explored to ensure the future sustainability of presses in the 21st  century.  The study was carried out by Professor Johan Muller, a research fellow of USAf’s.
