Study on Remuneration of Academics in South Africa’s universities

Published On: 12 December 2014|

This study, driven by wide perceptions that academic careers were less financially rewarding than those in the public and private sectors, sought to compare the guaranteed remuneration packages in 2012 of permanent full time academic staff across universities with those of their counterparts in the public and private sectors. Contrary to previously popular belief, the study found – in the main – that the academic profession, in general, paid relatively well against both public and private sectors, particularly at the more senior job levels.
