National Site Licence for Journals: One of USAf’s signature projects in 2018 will be the move towards a national site licence for journals. First calculations indicate that the overall cost for a national licence may be in the region of 5-10% but the huge advantage is the universal access to all universities, science councils and government departments.
A report compiled by the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) on the feasibility of a national site licence for journals has been considered by the DHET and the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Recommendations to the respective Ministers in this regard have been obtained. USAf will next create an expert committee under the auspices of the RISG to recommend the necessary structures required and to determine the funding protocols with DHET, DST and other relevant departments.
